People of all eras, race and creed at one time or the other may have heard ,seen or received nursing cares at one time or the other in various places . so a question of whether or not people know what is nursing or who is a nurse may not have such a hard answer behind the mental dictionary. But I believe that it is not whether people know or think about nursing and nurses that matter but what exactly their general concept of them are. to so many, nursing is a profession that harbors the most wicked of the world's populates. Why this concept ? may be you know but may I tell you anyway. A good number of nurses have left people with this kind of definition in mind through the way we relate to them . Wait a minute and think about this : A student walks to a School nurse in search of some solutions to some health problems. But just because the student could not smile as he presented his problem, the nurse without any delay tagged him "a black devil ' and not only at that instance, but made an illegal change of name for the student. In this case my question came ringing- Who is a black Devil among the two. To some others a nurse is only known by the uniform and not by what he or she offers . this is because many nurses of these days are concerned more not with what they do in the life of others in view of their professional skills but only about how neatly dressed they appear both to themselves and to others. But is that all there is in nursing? While the other group of people together with many nurses view nursing to be a gender discriminating profession. No wonder the idea that nursing is meant for females alone. I, together with Nursing profession pardon any layperson who at any given time in life may have had one or more forms of misconception about both nursing and nurses but strongly refuse to take it likely with any nurse who has refused to offer what this profession holds for Humanity through them.
When I a student nurse, I was one of the two male nurses in a class of 38 female student nurses here in my school of training Nigeria. I got a treat that struck the visceral chord hard within me both from both the female colleagues and as well as from my Clinical instructors . I had nothing in common with them both professionally and otherwise . they almost said that the class was made of only females by their actions . It was so bad that when I first encountered a certain young man in one of my clinical experiences who was in the clinic to pay a visit to his relative I needed no body to console me. The young man started by laughing in which I almost joined without knowing that I was the painted object of ridicule in his mind. he further embarrassed me by asking me whether I am a female in which I could not wait a moment to say no.He continued buy saying "what then are you doing in this profession"Although this is a question that many of the nurses have asked by through their actions, you would not understand how hot a slap it was to be confronted in that manner. But what pulled my sleeve lower than my wrist is that the nurses in the unit with me laughed in support of that fellow. Actually it was a burden to bear. I know that so many other male colleagues at one time may have shared similar or different challenges in this profession but I want to tell you to hold on a little longer you will see what this course has got to offer to humanity. Nurses have not been able to fulfill their obligations in this profession because of certain barriers they allowed to exist both between them and the their colleagues and the profession itself. As a result humanity of all era have been constantly denied of what nursing holds for them.
Nursing involves an individualized professional skill of care. In it is the first class of the human desired confidentiality. It holds in its pack; love and a kind of kindness that knows no race, color, creed ,or social background . I believe that a nurse is every thing that life requires to maintain health. Every nurse should learn how to apply the steps in nursing process in caring for every individual that is to receive the care at any given time . These steps are :

I know that when nurses start doing the work that they are obliged to do in this profession and kick off gender devision, they will drive a high sense of job satisfaction, and their patients will recieve the best out of what nursing holds for them and our communities will feel the unusual effect of good health and indeed all will know what nursing holds for man.
